To Be Like Me (TBLM) is a Richardson, Texas-based nonprofit dedicated to building empathy, kindness, and compassion in communities across North Texas. Through our signature programs, trained community advocates who live with disabilities, share their lived experiences with students, corporate employees, and community organizations — sparking meaningful conversations and lasting perspective shifts. Our cornerstone offering brings these programs directly into schools through in-person field trip experiences, while also reaching corporations and community groups through a range of flexible delivery formats. The Marketing & Communications Specialist is responsible for developing and executing strategies that advance organizational goals and engage key stakeholders, including donors, LEADers, volunteers, and community members. This role manages the organization's digital presence across social media, email marketing, and the website, while coordinating press outreach and maintaining a monthly editorial calendar. The Specialist produces and distributes a variety of materials — from e-newsletters and press releases to printed event collateral and promotional items — ensuring consistent and cohesive messaging across all channels. Working in close partnership with the Executive Director, Director of Development, and the Board's Marketing Committee, this position plays a central role in shaping and amplifying the organization's voice and brand.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Marketing & Communications Strategy
- Develop and execute marketing and communications plans and campaigns in collaboration with the Director of Development, the Executive Director and Marketing Committee that support organizational goals and objectives.
- Conduct audience research and analyze data to identify community needs, preferences, and trends to inform marketing and communications strategies.
- Coordinate marketing and communications initiatives across channels, including email marketing, social media, press outreach, events, and content development.
- Monitor and report on the effectiveness of marketing and communications efforts using metrics such as open rates, click rates, and audience engagement.
- Maintain and update the marketing and communications calendar and budget to ensure timely and effective execution of monthly initiatives.
Content Development & Publishing
- Prepare and manage a monthly editorial calendar to guide content across all platforms.
- Cultivate and manage the organization’s social media presence, develop and publish content, and oversee community management with prompt response to all incoming messages.
- Create and distribute monthly external e-newsletters to community members, stakeholders, donors, and volunteers using an email marketing platform.
- Draft, prepare, and circulate regular and periodic press releases to local media outlets.
- Support the development and maintenance of the organization’s website and other digital properties.
Design & Support
- Coordinate the production and distribution of marketing and communications materials, including brochures, flyers, and other promotional items.
- Design and produce photographic or video content as needed to support organizational marketing and communication efforts.
- Design printed materials for events or program team needs.
- Collaborate with internal team members to ensure cohesive and consistent messaging across all marketing and communications materials.
- Work in partnership with the Executive Director, the Board Marketing Committee, and the Director of Development to align marketing and communications efforts with organizational priorities.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in communications, marketing, graphic design or related field.
- Preferred experience in marketing, communications, graphic design, or social media.
- Excellent communication, writing, and organizational skills are required.
- Experience working with the following software and platforms: Microsoft Office suite, donor management systems, social media scheduling tools, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and email marketing systems.
- Highly organized, self-motivated, flexible team player with strong organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
