Description
The Director of Mission and Outreach leads the parish’s efforts to engage parishioners, regardless of age or ability, in knowing, serving, and learning from the poor. With this primary goal guiding all departmental efforts, the director is responsible for:
Working with clergy and staff to cast the parish’s vision for global and local ministry.
Developing, maintaining, and growing the portfolio of ministries that fulfill that vision.
Leading the parish to a lifelong journey of serving in Christ’s name so that we are growing in faith, following Jesus’ command to know, love and serve our neighbors and being a witness to others.
Equipping and sustaining the parish’s involvement in a multi-church, multi-denominational, multi-racial coalition to break cycles of poverty
Recruiting and fostering relationships with parishioners to equip them for volunteer service in programs, initiatives, and mission trips.
Requirements
Specific management duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Leading day-to-day planning, execution, and evaluation of 17 current ministries.
- Supervising a team of 3 departmental staff.
- Shepherding the efforts of 30 lay leaders and hundreds of volunteers.
- Maintaining a visible presence in the office, and on Sunday mornings, as a living hub for information about Mission and Outreach.
- Developing and overseeing the department’s annual budget.
- Managing relationships with key community leaders, both locally and abroad, in schools, nonprofit agencies, and churches.
- Authoring a monthly newsletter; working closely with the Communications team to ensure information about specific ministries is clearly and compellingly conveyed in church media.
- Liaison to two key ministries that require confidentiality and global impact.
About You
- At least 10 years of experience in non-profit management
- Experience participating in and/or leading foreign mission trips
- A demonstrated passion for spreading the Gospel through local and global work
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal, relational, and networking skills
- Strong financial aptitude
- Ability to travel internationally
- Attendance at worship and parish events related to Missions and Outreach
- A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
